This week we offer two different perspectives on the 1997 classic “As Good as It Gets” as Dustin has seen it many times since childhood and Jake saw it for the first time this week. We try to get to the bottom of how Melvin Udall, one of the worst people to center a movie around, so effectively gets us to care about him, understand him, and ultimately believe someone could fall in love with him. We explore the effectiveness of all the directorial choices, writing structure, music and how all that contributes to bringing these complex and flawed characters to life on screen.
